24

A “24-hour comic” is a creative-productivity challenge undertaken by comics creators: to produce a 24-page comics story in 24 hours. The rules don’t require staying up for 24 hours to do it, but most cartoonists do, because it’s a lot harder than it may sound.

Fairly early in the production if JAQrabbit Tales, I decided to participate, taking “24” as the theme for the tale I would tell. It’s a snapshot of 24 hours in the life of 24-year-old Jason, with each page taken from one hour in that day. To keep the night-time portion of the story from being a real… snooze… I incorporated dream sequences into it.

I am not a speedy or “accurate” artist, and I typically rely heavily on coming back to the same drawing over and over and over, to fix all the things I did poorly with the first draft… and an hour per page simply doesn’t allow for that. Which is my way of making excuses for the crudity of the art, and the shortcuts taken.
