Social anxiety can be difficult to understand if you don’t have it. I don’t have it that bad… some people can barely leave the house without it kicking in, but I can usually keep it in check. It helps to have someone you can hold onto… someone to hide behind, if the attention – the pressure to “perform” socially – gets too much. It’s especially helpful if that person is an extrovert, someone who thrives on and can soak up that attention. On the other hand, those people are sometimes bad at understanding what you’re experiencing.
