I made the original version of this story five years ago, for the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. At the time it only included the second and third pages, and I realized later that it really needed the first page, to complete the story: the day before, the day of, and the day after.

I make no apology for doing a porn comic about 9/11… for the combination of sex and terror. For one thing, I grew up during the height of the North American AIDS epidemic, so I don’t see the two topics as mutually exclusive. And I think it’s important to put them in context with each other: sex is an affirmation of life, and life shouldn’t be overshadowed by the fear of death.

For 15 years now we’ve lived in a “post-9/11 world”. But not really. In many ways we’re still stuck on 9/11. The terror of that day has become part of our social fabric, and frankly that’s an even bigger tragedy than the 3000 lives lost that day, because it diminishes the lives of us all. 9/10 was part of a fading past (one I feel lucky to have experienced)… 9/11 has become our present… 9/12 is what comes next. It’s time for us as a society to go there.
